Spent the last few days learning about important my job is in preventing back strain and injury.

Did you know that a whopping 4.9 million days of work have been lost in the UK alone as a result of work-related back injuries??

I never realised how easy it can be to cause back injury. The most common causes of back injury in the work place, I learnt are the following:-

• Lifting objects that are too heavy
• lifting objects incorrectly (not bending at the knees)
• lifting objects awkwardly (with a slight twist in the back)
• Bending and/or lifting objects with great frequency
• Standing for long periods of time at an awkward angle
• Sitting for long periods of time at an awkward angle
• Frequently having to bend or stoop

This is where I come in.

My unique ability, as a scissor lift, to take great weight and raise and lower myself, I can ensure that my colleagues are not having to bend, stoop or lift heavy objects.

This is me in the training session. See how Mike (the Health & Safety Officer) doesn't have to bend to load the pallet :-)

It feels great to have a job that makes a difference to people's lives.

Well that's all for now - thanks for reading.

Suzy the Scissor lift

My first day

Today I am starting my new job as the primary scissor lift for Padd Paper Ltd, a small local company producing a wide range of paper supplies.

I was shipped over from my birth place Translyft Denmark only a few days ago, I was welcomed with such enthusiasm by the engineer from Lifting Technology (the people who had me ordered from Translyft Denmark) I felt like royalty.

The engineer from Lifting Technology then introduced me to my new home and work place, Padd Paper.
